Wheat yields slashed when phosphate is depleted.

Here’s a link to a brief presentation by Professor Carlo Leifert of the University of New Castle based on research done for European Union’s Low Input Food Program.

The key result is an estimate of a 2-3 fold reduction of wheat yields (tons per hectare) without phosphate fertilizer inputs.
